Welcome to the official website of the WKGB! The Welsh Karate Governing Body Ltd (originally the Welsh Karate Federation) was established in 1980 with a total membership of 6 associations. It now has 39 autonomous member associations with a membership in excess of 6000 members.
As a member of the British Karate Federation the WKGB Ltd also competes in the WKF ( World Karate Federation) championships as recognised by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Note: The WKF & EKF are the only official karate organisations recognised by the I.O.C.(International Olympic Organisation) The Welsh Karate Governing Body Ltd is a Karate specific organisation and does not represent any other Martial Arts - subsequently licenses cannot be issued. It is the responsibility of Member Associations to observe and implement this Directive. Historically undersubscribed, there was a terrific turnout at the Plas Madoc Leisure Centre in Acrefair, Wrexham, making the 3 hour trip well worth it, for all four members of the Welsh National Coaching Panel. Article 21.9This has brought about conflicts with individuals and groups, most notably over the need to adhere to WKF rules around sporting relations with non-affiliated persons (Article 21.9). These rules have not been within our power to oppose as to do so would certainly have jeopardised our WKF mandate. The WKF rule has now been relaxed last week at the WKF Congress. We are now allowed to have sporting relations with those that are not affiliated to the WKGB Ltd, as long as they are not affiliated to other world bodies. This change seems fairer and more in keeping with the principles of sport.
British International OpenBritish International Open Championships Wales has been asked to take part in an International Team Event, which will take place, as an Elite section, within the British International Open. 2 x Male Teams (3 Plus 1) and 1 x Female Team (3 Plus 1) will be selected shortly. A number of International Teams will take part, including Australia, who are forwarding a 36 Strong Squad. This will go someway to giving our Seniors a replacement for the disappointment of not being able to make the Senior Europeans in Athens in May. We look forward to this event, the experience the Squad can gain from it and would like to thank Terry Connell (BKF President) for the invitation. Last Updated (Saturday, 12 June 2010 10:47) |
