Welcome to the official website of the WKGB!
The Welsh Karate Governing Body Ltd (originally the Welsh Karate Federation) was established in 1980 with a total membership of 6 associations.
It now has 37 autonomous member associations with a membership in excess of 6000 members.
The WKGB Ltd is the only Sports Council for Wales recognised National Governing Body for Karate in Wales. Through its membership of the European Karate Federation the WKGB sends Welsh Squads to compete in the annual EKF Junior and Senior Championships.
As a member of the British Karate Federation the WKGB Ltd also competes in the WKF ( World Karate Federation) championships as recognised by the IOC (International Olympic Committee)
Note: The WKF & EKF are the only official karate organisations recognised by the I.O.C.(International Olympic Organisation)
The Welsh Karate Governing Body Ltd is a Karate specific organisation and does not represent any other Martial Arts - subsequently licenses cannot be issued. It is the responsibility of Member Associations to observe and implement this Directive.

British International Open
British International Open Championships
10th & 11th July 2010
Kelvin Hall, Glasgow.
Wales has been asked to take part in an International Team Event, which will take place, as an Elite section, within the British International Open. 2 x Male Teams (3 Plus 1) and 1 x Female Team (3 Plus 1) will be selected shortly.
A number of International Teams will take part, including Australia, who are forwarding a 36 Strong Squad.
This will go someway to giving our Seniors a replacement for the disappointment of not being able to make the Senior Europeans in Athens in May.
We look forward to this event, the experience the Squad can gain from it and would like to thank Terry Connell (BKF President) for the invitation.

Irish Grand SlamIrish Grand Slam Once again, Wales has been invited to take part in the Irish Grand Slam event, which will be held in Dublin on Saturday 2nd October 2010. Both Male and Female Kumite Teams will take part and we hope the event will be as good as last years. Our Referees are also once again in demand, showing the profile we have raised as a complete International Squad. Selection for the Competition will take place shortly. With The British International Open, Celtic Karate Cup and the upcoming World Senior Championships in Belgrade, this looks to be one of the busiest times Welsh Karate has seen. Long may it continue!
